One of the very few places serving vegan / veg sushi. It is a Michelin star restaurant so the pressure was on me to like every single item from the menu but despite trying my best I could not do it. I think Sushi is a very personal preference kind of dish when it comes to the test of it. Overall experience is fantastic and the presentation of every dish is fabulous. I must say that they have great drink menu offering different kind of sake and soju options. It is a must visit place for vegetarian and vegan lovers.
Boddy and Soul Specialty Roll 10/10 Shio Ramen 8/10 Gyoza 10/10 Dessert 10/10 I love the boddy and soul specialty roll! I recommend it to anyone trying this place the first time. Service is great and welcoming. Interior is very bright and well designed. I’m excited to try other items when I come back. 💕
Had my eyes on this one for a really long time! We were lucky enough to get a bar- table as walk-in on a busy Saturday night… They screwed up the most loved and basic dish of any pan-asian/sushi place - garlic edamame. There was something extremely tart/soir in all of their dishes that was overpowering all other flavours. Maybe to compensate for the rich umami flavour of actual sushi, they aded some vinegar/chemically sour base to all dishes and that was a buzz kill. Ordered 3 rolls and just liked one out of those. Appreciate the effort of using tomato skin as salmon substitute but raw tomato on a sushi tastes bad!! Trust me. The eggplant used in the sushi topping was chewy like a gummy bear. Their tempura sushi was decent called Body and Soul. I usually like veg sushi rolls… Yakisoba had that vinegar base to it again, unappetising. Would not recommend this place even if u r a real sushi lover(even if its veg)
Absolutely incredible dining experience! Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The dumplings were perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy inside, and the edamame had just the right balance of seasoning. The sushi was fresh, creative, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The ramen was rich and comforting, and the dessert was the perfect sweet finish—light, fresh, and not overly heavy. You can really tell there’s attention to detail in every plate. Great ambiance and overall vibe too. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to. Highly recommend!
The food here was amazing! I'm not vegan but eat it often at home with my parents. I love to try new things and the flavors and ingredients used at Shizen were great. The eggplant nigiri and the special roll Missing Piece were my favorites. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived but we didn't mind. We got sat at the bar and the service was on point. I'd like to come back to try all the other dishes!
Today I visited Shizen SF, came right at 5pm and got lucky to get in with no wait, even without reservation (but honestly you prob should book ahead, this place gets packed fast). Shizen is a 100% vegan sushi spot and Michelin guided. I used to have a very great dining experience at Tane Vegan Izakaya in Palo Alto (another vegan sushi spot), so I just knew this place would hit! And I'm not wrong!!! I'm having a coffee date later so I only ordered two rolls: Candlestick and Boddy & Soul. Candlestick came out with a whole fire presentation, I was surprised and almost forgot to film. The roll had spicy tofu, cucumber, avocado, seaweed pearls, shichimi, and it tasted just like California roll no joke! I was shocked! (I mean it's not 100% alike but definitely around 80-90%) Boddy & Soul is recommended by staff. It's one of the most ordered item and I totally get the hype. The roll has tempura spicy tofu, green onion, sesame, spicy aioli, sweet soy. It's crunchy and the sauce was super flavorful, even better than some regular sushi I’ve ever had. You have to try it!!!!! Honestly I’d go back again multiple times just for this roll. Overall vibe was nice, service was good, food came pretty quick too. I’m not a vegan but I really enjoyed this place and for sure it converted me into a regular now!
So fun to have so many options for sushi! The vibe is relaxed and busy. The Candlestick was our favorite and we liked the rolls better than the nigiri. The kara age were the best we’ve ever had. And we got a mochi dessert!
