Chris was our server today and did great. Quick to take our orders, check on us, and was extremely friendly. The food did take awhile to come out but it was really good! It look like one cook in the early hours so thats understandable. Their biscuit and gravy is SO good 😭 a very fluffy and moist biscuit and the gravy was perfect. Would 100% come back.

Fantastic and attentive service from Chris and another server, quality food, flavorful, fresh, and delicious! Great location! We will always come back here when we come to town. One opportunity, the medium-rare rib-eye steak (and eggs) my husband requested was definitely "well done". We should have spoke up at the time but we don't like the create issues and it still had good flavor. A little disappointing but overall, great experience!

Strongly recommend Aromas!! Found while searching for a breakfast spot in Fresno and I hit the jackpot. The place is very nice, lots of space, good music, not to loud, tvs, and most important great service with friendly people. Miriam was awesome, I asked her what was popular on the menu and she recommended the Chile Verde Omelette. It did not disappoint!! Large portion, meat was flavorful and tender and the Verde sauce was not over powering. Had lots of cheese and potatoes just the way I like them…crunchy!! I should say, the Ice Cold brew hit the spot as well. I will definitley be back!! Thank you Miriam!!

I don’t know how this place has such good rating but I DO NOT recommend this to anyone! Maybe we went there the worst day but it was a really scary experience for me and my friends! We went there on Sunday for brunch, we ordered and then they didn’t brought our food for almost an hour after, and then our server came and she explained that they messed up the orders so they forgot our order and they will make it asap and etc. I think we waited another half an hour and then they started bringing the food but also bringing everything took them around 20 minutes and even with all that they forgot to bring some of the sides we ordered and by that time we were so exhausted that we didn’t even ask for it! But I haven’t told you the worst part yet! Right when we started eating there was this fight going on right next to the restaurant and we thought maybe some people are fighting outside! But apparently that was one of the customers that was getting beaten by someone from the restaurant!!! Our server told us that this guy was drunk and he has been rude to the restaurant’s manager so they kicked him out and yet he was there so they were beating him that he leaves! But the problem was we didn’t even see anything till we saw they’re beating him and other customers were trying to help him and what we would see was just some of the personnel in the restaurant were cursing him and beating him. We asked if someone called the police and our server said they did but it was definitely a lie because we were there for another 20 minutes but we didn’t see the police showing up! I wish we just had called the police! I would never go to a restaurant that not only they can’t guarantee your safety but also they might beat you up for no reason! The food is not even worth it! It was such a crazy situation but our server was so sweet and she was trying to calm everyone down and definitely she was under so much pressure too. She also removed the drinks from the check and we only paid for the food.

My friend Anita came to pick me up and we went to Olive Garden. Alot of space inside the only one I knew about was the one on Abby kiddy corner to McD's. Anyway we didn't have to wait to long and got a booth. Our Waiter was bringing our drinks when another Waitress came to our table another guy came and said it's ok I'll fix it & we continued with our Waiter really Nice and Patient person, Great Service, Great Team & Restaurant was Spotless. Alot of Parking even for Handicap's to Park closer to the Restaurant…

Just be careful when ordering. Sometimes food doesn't come like the menu pictures. So make sure you know what you are ordering. Staff will definitely take care of it for you. Happened to me. Had to order something else and wait a little longer.

I ordered the herb-grilled salmon but there is no sauce on the food or sauce that came with the food. It's just bland and is not seasoned. I ordered the steak to go last time and no sauce on or on the side for it as well. Disappointed about the food when it's to go.

Service was absolutely amazing, my waitress was very nice…and although it was super crowded she kept coming by and checking on us… My manicotti was kind of mushy and dry at the same time. My daughter orders parmesan chicken and Alfredo Alfredo and she enjoyed it. I ordered appetizers of meatballs and fried mozzarella both were delicious.

Michelin Bib Gourmand and lots of vegan/GF options so obviously I had to try it! Started with the polpo croccante and WOW the honey glaze was perfection. The octopus itself was slightly chewier/overcooked than I personally like, but the flavor? Impeccable. They also gave complimentary GF bread which was thoughtful, but honestly a little underwhelming compared to the homemade focaccia my friends got. I was hoping for something more elevated than standard packaged GF bread. I got the GF pasta (brown rice + corn pasta) with the pomodoro fresco, made dairy free with Follow Your Heart cheese (my absolute fav vegan cheese). Flavor was so tasty but presentation-wise the cheese felt a little lazy since it was just cut into cube slices instead of melted/incorporated more. That said, the colorful ceramic plates/water pitchers were SO cute and quirky and the whole restaurant has such a fun vibe. I feel like this place would be really magical at night with all the twinkle lights. My friends loved their dishes too. Definitely would go back, I just think there are a few little touches that could elevate it even more.

We had a delightful lunch on the outside patio. The seating was modest but comfortable and the patio is protected from the street by greenery. We enjoyed the generous complimentary focaccia bread and "Mediterranean salsa" (marinara), scampi, and tiramisu. The nonalcoholic espresso martini was just okay and Italian soda options were refreshing. Service was extraordinarily friendly. We were celebrating a birthday and received gelato and a Polaroid photo. Strongly recommend a reservation even on a weekday afternoon.

Food was excellent. This was my third time visiting, and the quality has been consistently outstanding. The pomodoro sauce with the touch of pesto is something special. The mussels, which are often hit or miss at other restaurants, were incredibly fresh, savory, and made for a fantastic appetizer. Even after finishing everything, the meal never felt heavy—the ingredients tasted fresh and well-balanced. The cappuccino was rich and smooth, and the pasta straws are such a fun, unique touch that adds to the experience. A special thank you to our waitress, Adriana. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the meal. Genuinely one of the best authentic Italian restaurants in San Diego. We’ll definitely be back.

Originally opened in 2019 this is by far the best Italian restaurant in Point Loma as well as all of San Diego in general. They have another terrific sister restaurant close by in Ocean Beach called Elvira so if you’re a fan of this place, I would highly suggest them as well. Parking in this area is fairly easy. They offer valet in front, otherwise it’s easy to find a free street spot, we were able to find one right across the street. The restaurant is not very large, but it’s very quaint and feels like you are dining in someone’s house. They have an indoor area as well as a heated outdoor area that is very pretty and feels like a garden. We sat outside and it was a really pleasant summer evening dinner. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. I started off with the Carpaccio and thought it was absolutely fantastic. Everything about it was perfect and the flavors were just top-notch. For my entrée, I chose the Paccheri Vodka and Scampi because I’m a huge fan of langoustines and creamy vodka sauce so this combo was perfect for me. I absolutely loved every part of this dish and would highly recommend. I would go back specifically for this. We finished with with the Tiramisu and that was a great end to the meal. Pricing is also fair and it’s very romantic so it would be a great decision for a date. I would highly recommend and will be back many times in the future.

We had a very disappointing dining experience due to poor service. Definitely not return! We had a 7:45 PM outdoor seating reservation, arrived early at 6:30 PM, and reminded the host that we were celebrating a birthday, asking if an earlier table might be available. We waited at the bar for drinks after 30 minutes waited we asked if we could dine there, but were told it was not allowed. However, we later saw many other guests dining at the bar, which made the situation even more frustrating. In total, we waited over an hour and were seated around 7:40 PM, not outdoors even though we had reservations for outdoor. After being seated, the server took our order but then disappeared for the rest of the meal. We had to ask another server for a to-go box and the dessert menu. Even though we clearly mentioned that we were there to celebrate a birthday, we received no acknowledgment at all, while we saw other birthday tables being congratulated as soon as they were seated and having photos taken at the end of their meals. Overall, the food was excellent. We had Polpo Fichi e Basilico as an appetizer the octopus was very fresh and for the mains we ordered Gnocchi Porcini Gamberi e Tartufo, Paccheri Vodka & Scampi, and a vegan pasta. All were delicious. However, the service was extremely disappointing, If you’re celebrating a birthday or special occasion, I would recommend choosing a restaurant with better service.

Our first to Olive Garden ever, and as Europeans we did not know what to expect. Just large portions of mediocre pasta? The portions were incredibly indeed very large, but we were proven wrong on all other accounts. Very kind staff, delicious food (we were especially surprised by the bread rolls and salad) and great atmosphere. My spiked strawberry lemonade was great, my sister that got the red fruit sangria which was a bit too sweet for our taste. We took our leftovers with us and our sweet server gave us some extra breadsticks to go!

Had an amazing Veterans Day meal at Olive Garden. The food tasted incredible, the chicken parm, ravioli, salad, and breadsticks were all perfect. But the service made it even better. Every waiter and waitress was kind, fast, and genuinely welcoming. They really made us feel appreciated. Huge thank you to the whole team for making the day special!

We’ve been disappointed the past several times we came. We sat at the bar this time, and the bartender was nice, but rarely checked in with us. Didn’t offer to refill our salad, breadsticks, or drinks- even though they were all empty at one point. I ordered the never ending pasta deal, and i waited at least 30 min (optimistically) before getting my first portion. We just wanted to leave at that point since the service was pretty bare minimum. We thought it’d be better service at the bar as opposed to a table. Looking around at the bar, you could tell it wasn’t just us that were disappointed.

Getting seating can be challenging, especially for larger groups of people. Getting on their waitlist can reduce the wait time, but not often by much. Depending on the server, there are always good ones, bad ones, and then there are the ones that go above and beyond, so far there are 2 of their wait staff that go above and beyond for their customers, while the rest give decently good service. The manager is very accommodating when/if needed to be called upon. The food is always great, as are their drinks. My family and I love coming here for dinner, its generally always a nice time.

Sam’s has legacy following in Fresno. My husband and I had lunch in the cafe. It was his first time ever eating at Sam’s! He had The Big Baller meatball sandwich and I had butternut squash ravioli. We had an appetizer and desert. Service was the service was warm and welcoming. The food was worth the wait. After lunch we walked through the store and deli. We bought a gift card for a friend. The lines were short today.

Never disappointed when I come to Sam’s. As I was looking for a sandwich on this day I noticed that they had pizzas. I came with colleagues and they too didn’t realize they had pizzas. I ordered the Pinsa Salume Pizza. It is an Artisan Roman-style pizza with pepperoni, sopressata, mortadella, mozzarella finished with hot honey. It was very good, good enough that I would come back and order it again. I would recommend it to others also. We sat outside in their outside seating. It was a great little area and no one was out there even. Give the pizza a shot, you might find it just as desirable as the sandwiches.

If you don’t love a good delicatessen and market, I don’t think we can be friends. Sam’s Italian Deli and Market is one of the finest in the country. There’s a reason for that too. The meat counter is the main draw where you’re immediately drawn in to belly up and get an order placed. Go ahead, check out all the shelves stocked with imported dry goods and the prepared food selections or go get a generous, hot lunch or a freshly prepared sandwich. Did I mention deli salads and antipasto? The atmosphere of gratitude that you are there, enjoying all the wonderful things that they have to offer overflows from the employees. I even found my favorite Peruvian Pepper Jam. So, thank you Sam and family for continuing an Italian tradition of extraordinary food and great service. Highly recommended

Went to celebrate our sons 10th birthday. its his favorite restaurant and we wanted to surprise him. Staff was friendly and accommodating… im not going to criticize the food, the Old Spaghetti Factory is what it is… critiquing the food would be a waste of time. Our son had a great night, his sister's enjoyed the the night as well. We'll likely be back for the three of them. Will say this though, next time I'll avoid the "marinara" sauce, had odd flavor. The "meat" sauce is a much better option.

🌟 Stunning atmosphere and flawless service, though the food was just okay 🍝We visited the historic Old Spaghetti Factory in Fresno (on Shaw Avenue) and were deeply impressed by the ambiance. 🏛️ Decor & Atmosphere — 5/5 Stepping inside feels like entering a museum or a classic movie set! The massive vintage chandeliers, beautiful stained glass windows, and plush velvet seating are absolutely incredible. The main highlight is an authentic 1910s red trolley from the Fresno Traction Co. parked right inside the dining room, offering a unique chance to eat next to a piece of California history. Every single detail is packed with old-school charm. Even the restroom layout with its authentic retro wooden vanity was a pleasant surprise. It is the perfect spot for taking great photos and enjoying a cozy family night out! 💁‍♂️ Service -5/5 The staff operates at the highest level. We received a warm welcome, our order was taken quickly, and the dishes arrived without any delays. The servers were incredibly attentive, polite, and professional a solid five stars for service. 🍝 Food & Menu -4/3.5The kitchen offers classic, time-tested Italian-American dishes that will satisfy those looking for simple, comforting flavors. The Garlic Shrimp Fettuccine and the classic Spaghetti with Rich Meat Sauce were prepared nicely, and the portions were very filling, but they didn't offer any culinary surprises. It’s just good, straightforward comfort food without any extra fuss. The fresh iced lemonade was also very refreshing on a hot day.A huge plus here is "The Complete 3-Course Meal" any pasta entree automatically comes with their famous hot sourdough bread, a choice of soup or salad (we upgraded to the Caesar Salad), and spumoni ice cream for dessert. This makes dining here incredibly filling and an excellent value for your money (I've attached a photo of the menu with all the prices). The Verdict: Definitely worth a visit for the unique interior, great photo opportunities, and exceptional service!

As a chef and someone who has delivered exceptional customer service for 18 years, i can honestly say this experience was absolutely awful from beginning to end. Once we were seated by the hostess, it took a good 12 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge us or bring us a water. The manager, I believe named Tammy seemed to be checking on guests, but never once checked our way even when I called out to her due to us never being brought napkins from our waitress upon asking. Our waitress spent a fair amount of time texting on her phone and the food was gross. Ive been to a few olive gardens and this is by far the worst. Never experienced such horrible customer service or food. The breadsticks were hard, the salad was drenched and contained the outer parts of the onion, and the soup tasted off. We were also never given a milk or drink that came with the kids meal. After leaving, my daughter said she felt sick from the food. I almost felt awful not tipping. I have never not tipped 15% or more depending on the service, but I was in awe of how bad everything was and since we were not given our complete order, i felt it was fair. We will not be going back and I do not recommend this location. Save your money and find somewhere else to dine.

Service was excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I was greeted immediately upon entering. Staff would periodically offer to refill drinks or ask if the food was acceptable but not to the point of interrupting too much. Food was ok. Not bad. I had minestrone soup and grilled chicken Alfredo. They didn't skimp on the chicken. I would definitely return again just for the service. Restaurant was very clean. Bathrooms are located at the very back right side of restaurant and were sanitized. It had modern decor.

From the time my friends and I got there until the time we left, the service was great. I don't remember the young man's name that served our table but he was on point. Excellent job. The food was great but it always is at olive garden. The environment was great. 5 🌟s

Really good customer service! And really good food! The food came out fast enough, we got served bread sticks right away and that was nice. The server was a very nice lady and a wonderful and kind server. I will definitely be going back. The prices are not outrageous either. So overall a very satisfying experience

Party of 6, arrived around maybe 6 PM? Got seated fairly quick. The atmosphere was very welcoming, the staff were very kind and we were welcomed with drink orders almost immediately. The menu shows pricey meals that are actually worth it, only 1 of us usually leaves with a leftover box, we left with 4. The salad / soup and breadsticks definitely play into this though. Speaking of those breadsticks? Our waitress apologized multiple times for them being in the oven but we enjoyed hearing that, fresh breadsticks and amazing salad is nothing to apologize for. I ordered a basic spaghetti and meatballs with an italian sausage included. Much to my surprise, the meatballs and italian sausage were huge! As well as extremely tasty. 10/10 would go again as well as recommend to others.

Excellent service Jonathan was attentive and professional. Soups, breadsticks, salad all delicious. My daughter's fettuccine was overcooked, so it was sent back and taken off the ticket, but all in all we were very happy. Thank you Olive Garden for making my grandson's birthday special. I was there last saturday, january 31 at 7:30 , i order my food with a minestrone soup. But the waitress brought me another soup. I guess she got confused, but she went back. And brought me the minestrone Which was terrible? I think if they don't have an item in the restaurant. All they have to say we don't have it. And people will order something else So she bring me minestrone and soup that looks like a can of stew tomatoes it was terrible. One thing that I noticed is hardly any people in that restaurant. And this has happened to me several times bad food,, i really hope they shut down. That restaurant is a bad apple In the box, there are some pictures of my soup. And also, but the restaurant that is empty before eight o'clock on a saturday night

Olive Garden is one of my favorite lunch places. You can get a good lunch at a reasonable price. I opted for soup and salad, my companions had pasta and salad. Their entree was large enough they took a substantial serving home for the basis of another meal. The service was good.

A perfect first night in LA! Cecconi’s managed to squeeze me in on a busy Saturday night, and from the moment I sat down, I felt like I was right in the middle of the LA scene. The atmosphere was lively and fun, the food was delicious, and our server, Lisa, was fantastic—warm, friendly, attentive, and welcoming. A great West Hollywood experience and a wonderful way to kick off my trip. I’ll definitely be back!

A true hidden gem in West Hollywood, offering an elevated Italian dining experience within a thoughtfully curated interior. The lobster spaghetti and ribeye special were both exceptional, but the space itself is what makes it stand out. Black-and-white flooring anchors the room with a timeless base, while vivid turquoise chairs introduce a bold, contemporary contrast. Curved ceiling elements paired with soft ambient lighting bring a sculptural softness overhead, creating warmth and flow throughout the space. Playful heart artwork adds a light, expressive touch that keeps the atmosphere from feeling too formal, striking a nice balance between refined and fun. With glam chandeliers and subtle modern European influences, the overall design feels layered, intentional, and effortlessly inviting. And of course, the doggy friend made it even cuter :p

A random choice of resto, turn out to be the best finding of Veal Chop Milanese i could ever find in the world. The fillet mignon is also superb and juicy, oh their roast potatoes on the sides are out of this world. And The Tiramisu, Oh My God so so so nice and balanced flavored, one of the best tiramisu i ever had as well. Surprised to find something like this in Melrose,Los Angeles. Definitely coming back for their other foods. Cecconi’s deserve Michelin Star!

Cecconi’s is in a fantastic location in West Hollywood, very close to Beverly Hills, making it ideal for both business and social dinners. I visited for a business dinner and had a great experience overall. We tried the special T-bone steak, which was absolutely delicious cooked perfectly and full of flavour. The cocktails were also excellent and complemented the meal very well. We chose to sit outside, and with the amazing LA weather in March, it made the experience even better. The vibe was relaxed yet upscale, with a lively atmosphere that’s perfect for a long dinner or catch-up. Overall, great food, great drinks, and a wonderful setting. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

It was a very pleasant experience. The waiter was very helpful — since my wife and I don’t eat pork, he offered us alternative options. We ordered the calamari, beef tartare, and margherita pizza, and they even prepared a special white truffle pasta for us. Overall, it was great. The calamari wasn’t overcooked, the beef tartare was made to perfection, and the pizza was absolutely delicious. My only issue was that the truffle pasta was a bit too oily and slightly heavy. I’ll definitely come again, and I highly recommend visiting when you’re in Hollywood!

Pretty authentic Italian food, and overall a nice spot. The price feels a bit higher mostly because of the service and ambiance. Nothing too surprising, but it’s a safe choice and hard to go wrong here.

Pasta Moon is one of my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area. Every meal I've had there is simply exceptional. Don't sleep on their soups and salads. My favorites are the nectarine goat cheese salad which features perfectly ripe nectarines and crisp local lettuce, and the ribollita. The daily specials are truly special. Tonight they featured tempura squash blossoms and their taste transported me to Rome. I also tried their ricotta gnocchi with morels, peas and asparagus which was disarming in its richness and complexity. The gnocchi were, of course, perfect, but the combination of the fresh snap of the asparagus and peas with the earthy and rich morels and cream was inspired. The atmosphere is peaceful and the service is impeccable.

I don’t know why this place has such few photos and kinda bad ones. I thought the vibe in this place would feel too open and sterile like a FEMA disaster response station but once we got there I was blown away. Adding picture to correct the impression they give. Food goes without saying-duh. But the staff from the main maître d’ to the table clearing guy were so friendly and nice. And the indoor and outdoor seating were beautiful. everybody gets a booth!

The service was excellent! 👌🏻 The food was top notch, except I did find a sticker for a banana peel in my clam chowder. That was fixed promptly, when I brought it to their attention. I get this place is popular and they want to bring it as many people as they can, so while walkways were wide, the seating between tables was a little cramped. Couldn't have a conversation without the next table eavesdropping on us. But I guess that's the cost we pay for being out in public.

If you plan to visit the picturesque Half Moon Bay just 30 miles south of San Francisco (and I highly recommend you do), please don't deny yourselves the delight and gastronomic satisfaction of dining at Pasta Moon. This officially recognized MICHELIN Guide Recommended Italian restaurant is celebrated for its elevated, farm-to-table Italian cuisine, handmade pastas, and seasonal, local seafood and ingredients. A recent family dinner here for Mother's Day was an outstandingly memorable evening, made indelible by the food, atmosphere, professional and attentive staff, and the pure joy of seeing how the "magic" happens in the kitchen. We were greeted by owner Kim Levine herself, (moon lighting as maître d') and seated at the "chef's table" — 4 high-top seats at a counter which borders the fantastically choreographed action of an expertly managed kitchen. (What a show! You will be awed by the physical execution of every dish). We decided to share plates so that we could sample and coo over selections from Antipasti, Zuppa e Insalata, Pastas, and Secondi Piatti. The highlights for us were the Ribolitta (nostalgia in a bowl of comfort), Della Casa Salad (amazingly delicious and fragrant greens), Lasagna (house-made with light and airy pasta layers that let the (also house-made) Sicilian sausage and macédoined vegetables shine — oh yeah!), Pappardelle Pancetta (hand cut velvety pasta ribbons wrap around a sauce packed with umami!), the Kurobuta Pork Chop (one of the most flavorful and tender chops we've ever had — no cap!), and… the hands-down B-E-S-T Ricotta Gnocchi (house-made) this Italian family has had outside of our Nonna's kitchen. [Although we did not order pizza, we enviously watched the perfectly puffed and browned pies being whisked to other tables… we plan to return to order several]. Treat yourself to the bounty of harvest this part of California is blessed with, lovingly transformed at Pasta Moon into one fantastic bite after another.

Frequently asked questions about italian restaurants in California

What makes a great Italian restaurant in California?

Defining a ‘great’ Italian restaurant in California is subjective, but key elements often include authentic recipes, a commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients – particularly imported Italian products – and a knowledgeable staff capable of explaining the dishes and wine pairings. Many top establishments prioritize a traditional atmosphere, often featuring exposed brick, warm lighting, and perhaps even live music, though this isn’t always essential for a truly enjoyable experience. Ultimately, it’s about experiencing a genuine taste of Italy.

How much do Italian meals typically cost in California?

The cost of a meal at an Italian restaurant in California can vary dramatically depending on the location, the restaurant's reputation, and the specific dishes ordered. You can find casual trattorias offering pasta dishes for around $20-$30 per person, while more upscale restaurants in metropolitan areas like San Francisco or Los Angeles can easily exceed $80-$150 per person, especially if you’re ordering premium seafood dishes or selecting from a comprehensive wine list. Buffet options and lunchtime specials offer more affordable choices.

What regional Italian styles are represented in California restaurants?

California boasts a remarkable diversity of Italian culinary styles, reflecting the state’s multicultural influences and the availability of fresh, local produce. You’ll find strong representations of Northern Italian cuisine, particularly dishes from Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, characterized by rich sauces, handmade pasta, and hearty meat dishes. Southern Italian styles, often incorporating seafood and Mediterranean flavors, are also prevalent, and increasingly, you’ll discover restaurants focused on regional specialties from Sicily or Puglia.

Are there any specific ingredients you should look for on the menu?

When choosing an Italian restaurant, pay attention to the quality of the ingredients listed on the menu. Look for mentions of imported Italian cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino Romano, fresh basil, San Marzano tomatoes, and high-quality olive oil. Dishes featuring seasonal vegetables and seafood will often indicate a commitment to fresh, local ingredients. Don't hesitate to ask about the source of key ingredients.

What types of pasta dishes are popular in California Italian restaurants?

California Italian restaurants frequently feature a wide array of pasta dishes, reflecting both traditional Italian recipes and regional adaptations. Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, and Amatriciana are staples. However, you’ll also find innovative dishes like Lobster Ravioli, Seafood Linguine, and variations on classic pasta shapes like pappardelle or tagliatelle, often prepared with unique sauces incorporating California ingredients.

How important is the wine selection at an Italian restaurant?

The wine selection is often a crucial factor in the overall dining experience at an Italian restaurant. Many establishments boast an extensive list of Italian wines, ranging from affordable everyday varietals to premium, age-worthy bottles. Knowledgeable sommeliers can offer recommendations to complement your meal, but even a basic understanding of Italian wine regions – Tuscany, Piedmont, Veneto – can enhance your appreciation of the cuisine.

What are some common Italian appetizers you might encounter?

Classic Italian appetizers, or antipasti, are a staple of any good Italian restaurant. Expect to find bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil, arancini (fried rice balls), polenta, prosciutto and melon, and various cheese and charcuterie boards featuring imported Italian cheeses and cured meats. Many restaurants offer seasonal antipasti selections.

Do California Italian restaurants offer vegetarian or vegan options?

Yes, many California Italian restaurants now offer vegetarian and vegan options, though traditionally Italian cuisine has been meat-focused. You can typically find pasta dishes with vegetable sauces, seasonal vegetable preparations, and vegan cheese alternatives. It’s always wise to inquire about specific ingredients and preparation methods to ensure a suitable dish.

How do California Italian restaurants differ from those in other parts of the US?

California Italian restaurants often reflect the state’s diverse culinary landscape, incorporating local ingredients like avocados, artichokes, and California wines. There’s a greater emphasis on fresh seafood compared to some other regions. Furthermore, Californian chefs often experiment with modern techniques and flavor combinations while still honoring traditional Italian recipes, leading to a more innovative and eclectic dining experience.

What are some tips for making a reservation at a popular Italian restaurant in California?

Making a reservation at a popular Italian restaurant in California, particularly on weekends or holidays, is highly recommended. Reservations are often essential. You can typically make reservations online through the restaurant’s website or through third-party reservation platforms. Arriving a bit early is always a good idea, especially for peak dining times. Confirm your reservation 24-48 hours prior to ensure it’s still in place.
