Great facility but prices are a bit higher than some. But it’s California after all, and the quality and cleanliness are great. AC is a real plus on hot days, as are the extended hours. Friendly and helpful staff as well. Will be back when in the area.

I live in Lindsay. It has two laundry mats. One has most of its machines out of service every time I go there, or there are a bunch of people there washing orange picking bags in the machines. The other uses cards you have to load money onto. However, there usually are no cards or the cards won’t work the machines. Now they want to charge for the cards because people keep the cards. But the machines do not work that well for the price they charge. Bubbles & Bleach had great machines. The place was kept spotless. The environment was very relaxing and cool because the AC was working. So I’ll drive to Visalia every week to do my laundry since this business wants my business and shows it. Great staff working there also that were extremely nice and helpful.

recently visited this laundromat with my blind and deaf mother, and I have to say the service was absolutely outstanding. This was by far the best experience I’ve ever had at a laundromat. A young employee (I believe his name was Asher) went above and beyond to help us. He was incredibly patient, kind, and made sure my mother felt comfortable and supported throughout our visit. It’s rare to come across someone who shows that level of care and respect. The facility was great, but the customer service is what truly stood out. Thank you for making what could have been a stressful trip such a positive experience. Highly recommend!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Insidious

Bubbles and Bleach is amazing. They had unicorns when i went yesterday and they sold me 1000 strawberry tide pods for only 5 dollars! They have a big tube slide that goes from the washer to the dryer and a feet soaking section i thorughtly enjoyed. Delectible selection of sweets in the candy machine and i got a free RuPauls drag race Elf on the Shelf for washing 7 loads of socks. Victoria was a massibe help when i got stuck in the tube slide, she poured soap down and i slid right out and rolled out the door! Good times, I tell you! Good times. And the owner Carlos! He is an amazing guy he built every machine by hand (with the help of his elves that work in the walls of the building) and I had to convince him free cotton candy every single day would be less money going into the buisiness. He is SO generous and magical but his sweet tooth..it may go south one day. Anywho, blessings to all, WASH AT BUBBLES AND BLEACH FOR THAT SHINE AND SQUEAK!!🫧🫧

One of the smaller laundromats in the area but sufficient amount of washers in different sizes. The smallest washer, completing a normal wash charges $5.00 with the option for add ons (additional charge). Each front loading unit has a touch screen and digital payment options. There is a change machine, vending machines, folding counter, coffee machine and wash/fold service. Didn’t seem too busy for an Early evening during the weekday. Good location, close to shops, dollar tree, fast food and banks.

This is hands down the best laundromat around! It’s always super clean, the machines are big, and they wash clothes really well. The service is excellent and the people who run it are amazing always friendly and helpful. They also own the liquor store right in front, which is super convenient while you’re doing laundry. You can tell they really care about keeping the place clean and making sure customers have a good experience. Highly recommend this spot if you need a reliable, clean laundromat!

5 stars for excellent customer service to Ms. Doris. Very nice, friendly, and helpful. There was an issue with one of the medium washers. She quickly offered assistance. Issue resolved. Also, 5 stars to a clean facility. Again, Ms. Doris was steadily cleaning the machines, and floors, before and after I needed her assistance. . Thank you Ms. Doris Thank you Clean King

I recently visited Clean King Laundry and had a mixed experience. One thing to note is that you have to purchase a $3 card before you can even start washing, and then load money onto it. I found the card system a bit frustrating and glitchy, which made the process less smooth than expected. On the positive side, the facility itself was very clean and well-maintained. There are plenty of chairs available if you need to wait, and the staff were helpful and friendly, which I really appreciated. Parking is somewhat limited, so that can be a challenge during busy times. Overall, it’s a decent laundromat with good cleanliness and service, but the payment/card system could definitely be improved

Wash & Dry is my favorite laundromat in Fresno, hands down. I’m always welcomed in, the facility is consistently clean, and the staff is incredibly helpful. There is always someone present to assist if an issue comes up, which gives me a lot of peace of mind. I especially love the free dryer with purchase, and their stamp card rewards are such a great bonus. Being able to redeem prizes or even a free wash is amazing. Another huge plus is that I can pay with my debit card or Apple Pay instead of carrying around quarters, which makes everything so much easier. Great service, clean machines, thoughtful perks, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Always a great experience every time I come in. Everyone who works here is super kind and helpful. The best and cleanest laundromat in Fresno by far, they offer free dry with your wash and also have stamp cards that you can use for free bags, detergent, or a free load of laundry in their biggest sized washer. I always look forward to coming and talking with the staff while I do laundry.

I love it here, and closer to where I live. The staff is very sweet, always keeping the place clean. She’ll come over and greet herself to you and make you feel more welcome. It is very convenient, close to everything like the store and restaurant, and it’s cheaper here to wash and dry; they just need to turn up the AC, get very hot inside because of the dryer and all the body heat from people inside. Other than that is great place to come wash over here. I came here twice with my husband; we always appreciate her presence.

I’ve used this laundromat in several occasions to clean my large comforters or area rugs. It is always clean and feels safe and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I LOVE that I can use an app to pay for the washers and dryers without having to purchase quarters and spend valuable time feeding them into the machines. With the app you can just pick the washer and dryer and send the money over from my bank account. Would definitely recommend.

I come here a few times a month, washers range from $5.25-14 and dryers are 25 cents for 6-8mins depending on the dryer. The attendants keep the areas clean and do a great job at resolving any issues regarding washers or dryers not working. They also have a wash and fold service for those who don’t have the time or energy.

Amazing service! We found ourselves in San Francisco for less than 48 hours with tons of clothes to be cleaned before our next stop for a sea holiday. We texted the number and they immediately replied, cleaned and folded all our stuff in less than 24 hours to accommodate our tight timings since we had to catch a flight. All perfect and truly too simple to be true!

I recently stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Union Square and needed a reliable wash-and-fold service nearby. After searching the area, I chose TL Laundromat, and I’m so glad I did! The process was seamless. I simply texted to schedule a pick-up and delivery, and the communication was excellent from start to finish. They kept me updated from the moment they picked up my laundry to the time they dropped it off. The service was incredibly fast, and everything was returned perfectly neat and fresh. On top of that, the staff was so kind and professional, which made the experience even better. I highly recommend TL Laundromat for anyone in the area, it was convenient, efficient, and hassle free. First time here, small washers only cost $2.50 a machine and only has 2 washers that holds up to 6 load, which cost $7.00 Don’t recommend for large households, you would need almost all the machines to wash. If you only need 1 or 2 loads to wash it’s perfect. I doubt coming back, even though I love the area.

Absolutely amazing, the staff is extremely helpful, clean environment, good working & good smelling machines, they accept cash, debit, & credit without any extra fees like some places. No more having to plan laundry day 🙂 I can just come here anytime. Good atmosphere and plenty of parking around back and some right in front.

Wow! Who knew? Wash & Fold has been around for years! I just NEVER thought I would ever use them. Busy schedule, washer down, Laundromat is less than appealing and the timing seemed right. Right indeed with RINSE! Easy to sign up, chat to answer questions. Follow up and updates before I had the app; with the app even easier. Fast turn around. The next day…sweet. Evening hours for pick up and delivery which works for me. Valet on time and friendly. Drop off Valet, I ok’d the «leave at door» option. Done with a confirmation photo… sweet! Felt like CHRISTMAS opening my Large RINSE bag filled with clean, folded clothes and linens. Seriously, it felt GREAT! I needed the help and RINSE was right there. Heartfelt thank you’s. Can’t wait for round TWO. My daughter wants to try the dry cleaning service they provide. We will see. Thanks again!

great service!! always on time and i love that they drop it the bags off at your door or you can leave them there for you. it’s like having a friendship who doesn’t need you attention all the time but still helps you out when needed lol. really professional as well. i’m only docking a star (not because of the service) but because i wish they had a subscription for the laundry services though not just a subscription for free pickup and next day delivery. i would totally subscribe and use it so much if so.

I’ve used this service a few times when i’ve had some chaotic weeks and just couldn’t do my laundry myself! Truthfully, it’s a tad pricey but worth the convenience and customer service! I am extremely disappointed with Rinse, had an awful first experience. I sent my Theory loose fitting wool+cashmere long cardigan for cleaning, trusting that a professional service would handle it with care. When I received it back, the coat was SHRUNK, developed pilling, and the fabric felt completely different- stiff and rough compared to the soft feel it had before. The fit is now completely off, and it looks nothing like the coat I originally sent in. Rinse took the coat to «fix» it, they STRETCHED it back, and now the bottom hem line is not straight or firm. It still feels awful, doesn’t have the soft feeling anymore. Then they expect me to be satisfied after «stretching back» my coat. Who would be happy when their clothing was shrunk then stretched back?? That is not what I had asked for. I would not recommend Rinse for delicate or expensive items. I asked to dry clean but they clearly did not.

Tried this service out as we are quite busy and dry cleaning by delivery sounded like a great idea. Cleaning quality however was spotty as one of the shirts came back with makeup stains not removed. I question the level of attention provided to clean a shirt. See lapel in the attached image for reference. Even in low lighting, you can still see the discoloration It’s not that big of a deal but what’s worse is Customer Support is nothing like support. I received an automated response to my complaint, provided availabilities to have it recleaned (nice to offer this btw) and then completely ghosted. It’s been almost a week with no response and I have followed up multiple times If you depend on your shirts to look professional and spotless at work, do not rely on these guys

I have never thought I’d have as great service as I did and how fast the time they came and folded so nicely and brought back on time and smell good. Used this service first time and was mis-charged for one item. They coded a denim dress as «formal wear». Good thing I caught it and they refunded it. Second time, they delivered my items to my elevated porch but hung them from my door knob. I’d never had anything stolen before but in the time between them being dropped off and getting to my door, a thief walked up my steps and took them. All other delivery services place items where they are not visible from the street but this company might as well have put a spotlight and blinking lights on the items.

April's Closet

This laundromat is one of the nicer ones I’ve seen so far. It’s always clean and an attendant is always there. They have 20, 30, 40 and 60 pound washers and 30, 50 and 80 pound express dryers. I love that they have cards to use the machines so I don’t have to worry about getting enough quarters beforehand. It’s a pretty big laundromat with lots of washers and dryers. I haven’t seen too many out of order signs and that’s good cuz some other places I’ve been to have almost half out of order. Their parking lot is pretty big and they have handicap parking right up front. The bathroom was clean and their vending machine was well stocked. They also have a sitting area and a big screen TV on the wall. They also offer free WiFi but you need to get the password from the attendant. I will be coming here more often to wash my clothes.

The facility is clean, tidy and well kept. No damaged machines that I’ve seen. No graffiti. The staff is very friendly and more than able to help if you have any questions. I travel for work and this is by far the best laundromat I’ve ever had the pleasure of using!

Mammoth Laundromat has been a great alternative to due my laundry because it’s clean, helpful staff, and their machines look to be well maintained. One of the better Laundromats that I’ve been to and have my business as well as I would recommend it to others in need of an alternative place to go.

I experienced the most uncomfortable degrading embarrassing experience ever. If you are of any color but what the worker Cody is I wouldn’t go there. I just woke up still not feeling right with how I was treated yesterday. I used the six loader and my clothes were stopped by Cody and he he stated something was in my clothes making the washer make a noise he’s never heard out of all the years of him working there. He stated my clothes have caused the machine belt or motor to break. I looked at him concerned and told him I’m pretty sure my clothes didn’t break your machine. He said well I don’t know I have to check it first. It never made that noise before. I said well I still need my clothes rinsed they were still soaking wet with soap on them. He still more concerned that my clothes and two throw over blankets have caused his machine to break and he can’t help me until he fixes it first. I asked him again if he can rinse the clothes that were still wet. He said I need to calm that he’s trying to make it right but he won’t do that if I’m still upset. I looked at him in shock and told him again I didn’t break your machine then he said I didn’t say that. I said sir that’s what you just told me that I broke your belt or your motor. When he threatened that to me I just stayed quiet and waited for him to check the washer and to start the smaller he said he can rinse the clothes out in. I immediately started crying in with my four year daughter I never experienced any customer service like this in my life. So I asked Cody his name and his manager name because I feel this is completely unacceptable. He told me her name was Natalia I can talk to her in the early morning and that she’s more then aware of everything going on I said okay great. Well about ten minutes later the owner Quen arrived and asked me what the problem is. I explained to her what happened and she even said she knows my clothes didn’t break her machine. She asked what I can do for me and I asked for a refund. She offered to atleast dry the blankets that were never rinsed. I just took that offer since it was better then nothing. Even though my clothes weren’t washed properly I had to settle for what I could unfortunately. She left before they can completely dry and the way Cody spoke to me I didn’t feel comfortable asking him for more time even tho she said Cody would take care of me if I needed more time. I knew it the way he looked at me that it would be another problem. I didn’t believe it was race but I can’t explain anything else that would cause someone to speak to a woman like this in front of their child and others at a Laundromat. I heard how he was talking to his boss and the tone was completely different. Also When I arrived there I couldn’t help to over hear a colored man asking Cody if he seen what happened to clothes that were in such washer. Over heard Cody explaining that there is policy to remove them after such time. The customer stated oh I knew I wasn’t tripping I was wondering what happened to them. I don’t know if it’s just colored customers he chooses to do this too but I hope he is out to a stop. And if you see the Quen I hope u do look over your cameras and watch how Cody spoke to me. Im sharing this so no other woman has to go through this.

Frequently asked questions about laundries in California

The History of Laundries in California

The history of laundries in California is deeply intertwined with the early 20th century and the rise of immigrant labor, particularly from Mexico and Central America. Initially, many laundries were small, family-run businesses offering cleaning services to primarily working-class communities. However, as demand grew, larger operations emerged, often employing predominantly immigrant workers, frequently women, in labor-intensive conditions. The system evolved significantly over time, marked by periods of relative prosperity and subsequent exploitation.

What were "Laundry Maids" and what did they do?

"Laundry Maids" were predominantly immigrant women, primarily from Mexico and Central America, who worked in laundries throughout California, particularly in urban areas like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland. Their roles extended beyond simply washing clothes; they often managed the entire operation, including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, and sometimes even delivering laundry to clients. They faced long hours, low wages, and often experienced difficult living conditions in company-provided housing.

What were the typical working conditions in California laundries?

Working conditions in California laundries were often harsh and exploitative. Workers typically labored for 12-14 hours a day, six days a week, with minimal breaks. Wages were often significantly below minimum wage, and overtime pay was frequently denied. The work was physically demanding, involving repetitive motions and exposure to harsh chemicals. Many workers lived in company-owned boarding houses with poor sanitation and limited privacy.

How were the Laundry Maids recruited and what were the terms of their employment?

Laundry Maids were frequently recruited through labor brokers and advertising in newspapers and community centers, often targeting immigrant communities. Employment contracts were frequently verbal and often contained unfair terms, including restrictions on movement, limited legal recourse, and high recruitment fees that workers were often required to pay. Debt bondage was a common issue, trapping workers in a cycle of exploitation.

What was the role of the California State Labor Commission?

The California State Labor Commission played a limited role in regulating the laundry industry for many years, primarily focusing on enforcing minimum wage laws and addressing labor disputes. However, enforcement was often weak, and the Commission frequently lacked the resources and authority to effectively protect the rights of Laundry Maids. Significant reform efforts were only initiated later in the 20th century due to mounting public pressure and advocacy from labor organizations.

What were the legal challenges faced by Laundry Maids?

Laundry Maids faced numerous legal challenges, including wage theft, denial of overtime pay, unlawful termination, and housing discrimination. Many workers were hesitant to pursue legal action due to language barriers, fear of deportation, and the perceived difficulty of winning a case. Class-action lawsuits eventually became a key strategy for holding laundry owners accountable.

How did unions attempt to represent Laundry Maids?

Labor unions, particularly the United Laundry Workers of America, played a crucial role in advocating for the rights of Laundry Maids. They faced significant challenges in organizing immigrant workers, who often lacked the resources and understanding to participate effectively in union activities. Despite these difficulties, unions conducted outreach efforts, provided legal assistance, and pressured employers to improve working conditions.

What impact did the decline of the laundry industry have?

The decline of the traditional laundry industry in California during the late 20th century, driven by automation and the rise of commercial laundries, had a significant impact on the lives of remaining Laundry Maids. Many lost their jobs, and those who remained faced increasingly precarious employment conditions. The shift also resulted in a loss of cultural heritage associated with the labor of immigrant women.

What is the legacy of the Laundry Maids in California?

The legacy of the Laundry Maids in California remains a significant part of the state’s labor history. Their experiences highlight the challenges faced by immigrant workers and the importance of protecting vulnerable populations from exploitation. Their story serves as a reminder of the need for ongoing vigilance and advocacy to ensure fair labor practices and promote social justice. The term "Laundry Maid" itself has become a symbol of historical injustice.

What resources are available for researching this topic?

Numerous resources are available for researching the history of laundries in California. These include archival collections at the California State Archives, the Bancroft Library at UCLA, and the Huntington Library. Oral histories collected by labor organizations and community groups provide valuable firsthand accounts. Additionally, academic publications and legal documents offer further insights into this complex and important topic. The California Historical Society also maintains valuable records.
